Weatherproof pencils can withstand wet paint and brushwork, making them suitable for writing applications as well as modeling projects.
For optimal performance, use distilled water with these products as tap water’s mineral content can alter wet performance. Synthetic and sable paint brushes work especially well when pairing these pens.
Copic Multiliner Pens
Copic Multiliners are disposable drawing pens made up of multiple ink cartridges similar to Copic markers and designed for precise detailed work on paper or watercolour card, including use with water-soluble acrylic paints. Their photocopy-safe, waterproof ink makes these the ideal portable drawing solution.
These pens feature an aluminium barrel that’s great for holding, and feel well constructed. Furthermore, their removable nibs mean you can swap out for new ones if need be. Their ink lays down an attractive black line no matter which tip size is being used.
These pens excel on smooth paper but can still work well on rough watercolour card and texture surfaces too, like rough texture paper and watercolour card. Their tip doesn’t split when drawing over rough surfaces like other technical pens tend to do, while their ink stands up well to vigorous erasing, maintaining its color without fading or lifting off over time. Since it’s waterproof too, AK 3rd Gen Primer and Base Colour worked flawlessly when applied over them!
Pilot Tough Wash
Pilot Parallels can take quite a beating and withstand some wear and tear, but they still require maintenance to remain functional. Before using one, ensure it’s clean! To start off, remove the pen cap, ink cartridge, flushing bulb and submerge its reservoir tube in water container such as a cup or drinking glass while pressing its flushing bulb to continuously rinse with freshwater.
Once complete, remove the nib from its reservoir (it’s the two fused parallel slabs of stainless steel where ink seeps through), use a paper towel to wipe off any dried ink on both the inside and outside surfaces of parallel nib slabs, then stick or wrap a small piece of tape around both the nib and pen body with written labels or color swatches so you’ll know which ink colors to use in your work.
Speedball Calligraphy Inks
Traditional calligraphy calls for waterproof ink, which prevents accidental spills or condensation from your water glass from ruining it. Plus, waterproof ink works great when combined with watercolors for decorative effects!
Speedball India inks are archival, permanent and lightfast. Ideal for dip pens, technical drawing pens and brushes as well as paper surfaces like plastic drafting surfaces – their excellent reproducing quality makes for quick application through pen, brushes, steel nib pens or airbrush.
This set includes 10 acrylic ink bottles, each one containing 12ml (0.4oz). They’re marked with their specific hue to help identify them easily when mixing colors; additionally, a plastic palette comes with each bottle so as to not cross-contaminate colors when you mix. Once dry, these inks become waterproof; for best results use them on high-quality papers as they tend to soak into fibrous ones quickly causing feathering or bleeding effects.
Faber-Castell Gel Pens
This simple and practical gel pen features quick-drying ink that is fade and water-proof, perfect for drawing, sketching, Manga art and illustration. The 0.7mm tip may be too firm for precise work but delivers vibrant colors without bleeding through. Plus it has a translucent barrel so you can see exactly where the ink level sits, with a comfortable ridged grip zone and convenient pocket clip!

Pitt Artist Pens contain odorless permanent pigmented India ink that is both water and fade-resistant, acid free, and pH neutral when dry. Oil paint or enamel washes can be applied directly over weathering pencil effects once dry; also compatible with water-based acrylics when sealed with non-acrylic varnish like REAL COLORS Lacquer varnish sealer; weathering pencils become unusable when submerged in water for too long due to swelling wood; for optimal wet performance use only Distilled Water as it outperforms tap water when wet!
